Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief PGen. Rommel Francisco instructed all police units nationwide to focus on ensuring public safety and security as the nation celebrates the upcoming New Year.
"We have mobilized our police units to maintain peace and order during New Year celebrations and ensure the safety of travelers heading home," Marbil stated.
"Coordination with government agencies and local traffic management offices is key to managing the movement of people and vehicles effectively during this busy season,” he added.
In addition to ensuring safe and smooth travel for those returning to their respective provinces, Marbil assured the public of the police’s readiness to administer first aid for firecracker-related injuries and respond to fire incidents in coordination with local fire protection units.
“Fires, injuries, and fatalities can be avoided through vigilance and responsible behavior. We urge everyone to observe government-designated fireworks zones and community display areas and refrain from using banned or unsafe pyrotechnics,” said Marbil.
He also warned against unsafe practices during the celebration, such as tire burning and road blockages, which impede emergency response efforts.
Marbil stressed that these actions pose significant risks to public safety and obstruct the movement of emergency vehicles. He added that individuals caught participating in such activities will face appropriate penalties.
The entire police force urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately.
Furthermore, police assistance desks and hotlines are set up in strategic locations to address concerns or incidents.
In a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, it was mentioned that the heightened alert status across the entire PNP has been in effect since December 15 and will remain in place until the first day of January.
