PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) is already focusing its gaze towards the death threat received by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian that is believed to be rooting from the ongoing Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) investigation.
ACG is closely working with Sen. Gatchalian’s camp with regards to the death threat against the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means.
Gatchalian mentioned that a video is circulating online that contains threats directed at his personal safety and well-being. The video insinuate that allegedly suspended Bamban Mayor Alice Guo paid Php 5 million each for Sen. Gatchalian and Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality Chairperson Sen. Risa Hontiveros, to halt the probe into the raided POGO in Bamban, Tarlac.
The threat prompted the senator to request a thorough investigation with the authorities in order to take urgent action on the matter at hand.
In an interview with DZRH news, Philippine National Police (PNP) Spokesperson PCol. Jean Fajardo mentioned that the ACG is looking into the source of the said death threat against the lawmaker and if it’s really connected with the senate investigation.
Fajardo assured that the PNP is ready to take action once the threats are confirmed.
“Lahat po itong pagtatangka at pananakot po ay sineseryoso ng PNP. Kaya laging pong handa ‘yung PNP na magprovide po ng karampatang security doon po sa subject ng mga threats,” Fajardo said.
Apart from Gatchalian, some officials from the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) have sought the assistance from the PNP amid the unmasking of scam hubs in Bamban, Tarlac and Porac, Pampanga.
