The Philippine National Police has announced longer weekend hours for gun registration to give gun owners more time to submit their documents.
The expanded hours of the PNP Civil Security Group in Camp Crame, Quezon City, are intended to aid the government's war against unregistered and illicit firearms.
Firearms registration and licensing will be accessible beginning at 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, administered by the CSG and the PNP Firearms and Explosives Office.
In a released statement, Chief of the Police Public Information Office, B.Gen. Redrico Maranan, expressed his understanding of the importance of accessible services for their stakeholders and assured that the PNP commits to making the application process for licenses to own and possess firearms and firearm registrations as convenient as possible.
The PNP has been organizing one-stop-shop caravans across the country to urge more gun owners to register and renew their guns.
It has also cracked down on illegal guns and firearms with expired registrations, with police reporting the seizure of 10,214 guns from January to May of this year.
