The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Thursday that it has activated two police provincial offices (PPOs) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) following a plebiscite that permitted the formation of Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte.
The creation of the Maguindanao del Sur PPO and the Maguindanao del Norte PPO was approved by the National Police Commission (Napolcom) based on the passage of Republic Act 11550 through a plebiscite in September last year, according to PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr.
Azurin said the establishment of two new provinces could result in socioeconomic development for the two new provinces.
Maguindanao del Sur PPO will consist of 24 municipal police stations and be stationed in Camp Datu Akilan Ampatuan in Shariff Aguak, the province's capital. Col. Roel R. Sermese is the police provincial director.
The Maguindanao Del Norte PPO, on the other hand, is temporarily located at Camp Salipada K Pendatun in Parang and will consist of 12 municipal police stations.
Meanwhile, Col. James Gulmatico has been appointed as the officer-in-charge of the Maguindano del Norte PPO.
