PISTON on Marcos' plan on fuel prices: 'Titignan pa natin kung magsisilbi sa mamamayan'
by John Dexter Tilo08 June 2022

Transport group PISTON said they are watching President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr's plan on alleviating the plight of drivers and consumers from soaring fuel prices after he claimed other measures to resolve the struggle.

Marcos previously ruled out the possibility of suspending the excise tax on fuel products as he said they are looking at supporting hard-hit sectors instead.

According to Marcos, there are other ways to "handle the increase" in fuel prices, as the government needs the fund coming from excise tax for its projects.

PISTON national president Mody Floranda acknowledged these remarks by Marcos in an interview with DZRH, as he said the incoming administration will also face the challenge of revising the high taxes.

"Meron siyang sinasabing isang pamamaraan pero titignan po natin kung ito ay magsisilbi sa ating mamamayan," Florando said in an interview.

(He said he has a way but we have yet to see if it will serve the public.)

Marcos previously underscored the importance of the transport sector, saying that they are going to be "critical in the resurgence of the economy."
