Transport group Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON) also condemned the attack on DZRH reporter Val Gonzales by members of the Samahang Manibela Mananakay at Nagkaisang Terminal ng Transportasyon (MANIBELA).
"Ang media ay bahagi ng, sa malawak na mamamayan, kaisa natin sila sa paghahatid ng tamang balita at kasama natin sila, katrabaho natin sa lipunan," PISTON deputy secretary general Ruben Baylon told DZRH on Tuesday, June 11.
"Mahalaga na dapat ay minamalasikan itong mga manggagawa sa media natin at hindi nilalait o sinasaktan," Baylon added.
Members of MANIBELA surrounded Gonzales on Mondday, June 10, while he did a live report on the protest rally of the transport group along East Avenue in Quezon City.
Gonzales said that the protesters punched him twice before his driver, Dennis Villanueva, managed to get him away from them.
Both PISTON and MANIBELA protest against the consolidation requirement of the public utility vehicle modernization program, which require them to join or form a transport cooperation in order to continue operations.
