Former senator and returnee aspirant Panfilo "Ping" Lacson clarified that he will run as an independent candidate in the 2025 midterm elections.
"I am running as an independent candidate, not being a member of a political party," Lacson said in an official statement on Saturday.
"I am a guest candidate of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), which is part of an alliance of five major political parties that includes the administration’s Partido Federal ng Pilipinas," he added.
Lacson expressed pride in being part of a significant coalition of the country's five major political parties.
Furthermore, he described the claim that he defected from a political party as malicious.
"On Oct 2, when I file, my COC will reflect that I am an independent candidate running under a coalition of 5 political parties – Lakas, NPC, NP, NUP and PFP, the President’s party," Lacson mentioned.
"My CONA will be issued by my adoptive party, the NPC," he added.
Lacson urged the public not to be misled by disinformation. He reiterated that running as an independent candidate means he does not belong to any political party.
"I am only a guest candidate of NPC which is part of a five-party coalition that includes PFP, the president’s party," Lacson said in closing.
On September 26, Lacson was one of the 12 senatorial candidates revealed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. who will run under the 'Bagong Pilipinas' alliance for the 2025 midterm elections.
