Cebu Province has imposed a fresh 60-day ban on the admission of live hogs, sows, and pork-related goods from Bohol following the detection of African swine disease cases.
In an executive order, Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia stated that the interim prohibition was in response to confirmed cases of African Swine Fever in the Municipality of Pilar, Bohol.
The restriction also applies to piglets and boar, livestock transport vehicles, and reefer vans from Bohol in order to "protect the hog industry of Cebu."
Garcia directed that the Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, Cebu Port Authority, Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority, and Mayors within the Province of Cebu strictly enforce the new Executive Order.
Meanwhile, the local government of Bohol has stated that the illness has been contained.
Provincial veterinarian Stella Lapiz also stated that they checked outside of a kilometer radius of the positive hogs, and the samples were all negative.
According to Lapiz, there are only nine households with swine farms, and the hogs were killed and paid for by the local government unit.
She said that they also set up checkpoints and reduced the number of vulnerable animals.
