Filipino gymnastics prodigy Karl Eldrew Yulo delivered a milestone performance for the Philippines after clinching two bronze medals at the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships held at Newport World Resorts in Pasay City.
Yulo earned bronze medals in both the Junior Men’s Floor Exercise and the Horizontal Bar, marking the country’s first-ever podium finishes at the junior world level.
His back-to-back wins solidified the 16-year-old’s status as one of the most promising young gymnasts in the international circuit.
On Sunday, the home bet impressed the crowd at the Marriott Grand Ballroom with a 13.733 score in the floor exercise finals, built on a 5.300 difficulty and 8.433 execution.
His routine earned him third place and the Philippines’ breakthrough medal in the tournament’s young history.
He followed it up with another composed performance in the horizontal bar finals, securing a second bronze and completing a historic sweep for Team Philippines.
Yulo also came close to another podium finish, placing 4th in the Junior Men’s Vault Finals, and finished 8th in the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics All-Around Finals, showcasing consistency across multiple apparatus.
With these achievements, Yulo not only makes history but also strengthens the Philippines’ presence in international gymnastics—continuing the legacy of his older brother, Olympian Carlos Yulo.
