PHL to 'rehash' gov't strategy for Pfizer vaccine in deployment of Sputnik V
by Kristan Carag03 May 2021

Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. assured that the Philippine government has a strategy in order to transport Sputnik V, the 2019 Coronavirus Vaccine (COVID-19) developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology in Russia, to the provinces.

Galvez, the chief implementer of the National Task Force Against COVID-19, said on Sunday, May 2, that the government will 'rehash' the preparations of the government for handling the vaccine developed by the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

Sputnik V needs to be stored at a temperature of minus 18 degrees Celsius or below, while the COVID-19 vaccine of Pfizer needs a storage temperature of around minus 70 degrees Celsius.

"Meron na tayong preparation doon sa Pfizer. Ang Pfizer mas kritikal iyon," said Galvez, who also serves as the vaccine czar of the Philippines, during DZRH's Huntahan.

Galvez gave the assurance following the arrival of 15,000 doses of Sputnik V in the Philippines on Saturday, April 1.

"Ang deployment naman ng Sputnik ay initially na muna sa Metro Manila. Kapag medyo maayos na ang ating logistics run, pupunta na tayo sa Cebu and also Davao," Galvez said.

"Little by little, kapag nagkaroon na tayo ng experience at saka nagamay na natin lahat iyan, kayang-kaya na rin natin iyon," he added.
