The Philippines won two gold medals at the opening day of the 2024 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Junior Championship on Thursday, September 19, in Spain.
Angeline Colonia kicked off the gold medal rush after she ruled the women's 45 kilograms category with a total lift of 162 kilograms, 74 kilograms in the snatch category and 88 kilograms in the clean and jerk portion.
Thai weightlifter Khemika Kamnoedsri finished with a total lift of 160 kilograms (73 kilograms in snatch, and 87 kilograms in the clean and jerk) in order to finish at second place.
Ioana Madalina Miron of Romania snagged the bronze medal after she registered a total lift of 154 kilograms (66 kilograms in snatch, and 88 kilograms in the clean and jerk).
Lovely Inan snagged another gold medal for the Philippines after she lifed a total of 179 kilograms (79 kilograms in snatch and 100 kilograms in the clean and jerk) in the women's 49 kilograms competition.
The Filipina weightlifter bested Karoll Lopez of Colombia, who settled for a silver-medal finish after finishing with a total lift of 178 kilograms (80 kilograms in snatch and 98 kilograms in the clean and jerk).
Lucia Gonzalez of Spain secured the third place with a total lift of 170 kilograms (75 kilograms in snatch, and 95 kilograms in the clean and jerk).
