Arnel Mandal secured the first silver medal of the Philippines in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

The 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist settled for a second-place finish after falling to Chinese bet Jiang Haidong in the finals of men's wushu 56 kilograms on Wednesday, September 28.

Mandal secured a spot in the gold medal match after defeating Avazbek Amanbekov of Kyrgyzstan in the semifinals.

The Filipino wushu practitioner also bested Jamshidbek Guliboev of Uzbekistan, and Sunil Singh Mayanglambam of India en route to the finals.
