The state seismologist on Friday reported that it recorded a total of 199 rockfall events in Mayon Volcano or Mount Mayon in the past 24 hours.
In its 8 AM bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that Mount Mayon has also generated a 6 dome-collapse Pyroclastic Density Currents (PDC) that lasted 3 to 6 minutes.
“Fair crater glow or “banaag” and incandescent rockfall shed from new fluidal lava at the summit of Mayon Volcano were also observed last night,” it said.
Phivolcs said the volcano emmitted steam-laden plumes with a height of 800 meters, and it is drifting toward the South.
Meanwhile, sulfur dioxide emission was last measured at an average of 332 tons per day on Wednesday, June 7.
The state seismologist said Mount Mayon is still inflated, especially in the northwest and southeast.
On Thursday, Phivolcs raised Mayon Volcano's status from Alert Level 2 to Level 3 after the continuous increase in its rockfall events.
The province’s governor Edcel Greco Lagman already ordered the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to evacuate residents living inside six-kilometer permanent danger zone (PDZ) of the volcano.
Albay's public information office said a total of 2,400 families or about 10,000 individuals are expected to be evacuated.
