The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) announced Monday that it is considering recommending the evacuation of inhabitants living outside the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) of Mayon Volcano.

This occurred after Mayon had lava flow activity at 7:47 p.m. on Sunday, emplacing at least 500 meters along the Bonga and Miisi Gullies from the summit crater.

Due to "intensified unrest" or magmatic instability, Mayon Volcano is currently on Alert Level 3.

According to PHIVOLCS Directior Teresito Bacolcol, they may recommend evacuating all persons residing within a 7-kilometer radius of Mayon Volcano based on their monitoring of the volcano's activity.

He also stated that PHIVOLCS will not upgrade Mayon Volcano's alert level to Alert Level 4 "for now."

As of 5:00 a.m. Mayon Volcano recorded 21 volcanic earthquakes, 260 rockfall events, and three pyroclastic density current events on Monday.

While its edifice is inflated, a decent crater glow remains apparent to the naked eye. On Sunday, it also spewed 642 tonnes of sulfur dioxide.
