The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) clarified on Wednesday that there was no recorded eruption on Kanlaon Volcano.
Interviewed during Rapido Hataw Balita on Wednesday, PHIVOLCS Director Teresito Bacolol said what was observed in the area was a mud flow.
"Wala kaming narecord na another eruption same sa June 3. Ang nagyare lamang—maulan kasi ngayon. Naremobilize yung mga organic gas natin as a muddy sheet wash," said Bacolol.
The statement was made following a report by Canlaon City Mayor Jose Chubasco "Batchuk" Cardenas that the Kanlaon volcano erupted, urging people in the nearby area to evacuate.
Bacolol said Kanlaon recorded a total of 17 earthquakes within the past 24 hours, which is lower than the previous 43 recorded earthquakes.
Alert level 2 still prevails in Kanlaon Volcano.
