Another ash emission event that lasted for one minute was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Sunday, December 8, as continuous degassing persists in Kanlaon.
In early Sunday, the PHIVOLCS' 24-hour observation bulletin indicated that there were 14 volcanic earthquakes recorded since the last update. Ground deformation in the area was also logged, as the volcano's edifice inflated.
Consequently, 3,891 tonnes of sulfur dioxide were released by the volcano last Saturday, December 7; Including a moderate 200-meter plume, which later drifted west-southwest.
Alert level 2 is currently raised at Kanlaon volcano due to its increased unrest.
The public is prohibited from entering into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ), and flying an aircraft close to the volcano.
They are also warned of possible hazards like sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions, as well as precursory magmatic activity.
