The Philippines is set to make badminton history after the Badminton World Federation (BWF) officially announced that Manila will host its first-ever BWF World Tour Super 100 tournament in 2027.
The announcement forms part of the BWF’s unveiling of tournament hosts for the revamped 36-tournament BWF World Tour from 2027 to 2030. The new structure signals a major shift in the global badminton calendar as the federation rolls out what it described as bold plans for the future of the sport.
Under the new format, the BWF World Tour will feature a unified six-level system. This includes the prestigious BWF World Tour Finals, five Super 1000 tournaments, five Super 750 tournaments, nine Super 500 tournaments, eight Super 300 tournaments, and eight Super 100 tournaments — now fully integrated for the first time.
Manila joins a select group of host cities for the Super 100 level, alongside China, Chinese Taipei, India, Malaysia, the Netherlands, and Vietnam.
The inclusion of the Philippines marks a significant milestone for the country’s badminton community, which has been steadily gaining international recognition in recent years.
The Super 100 tournaments will also see an increase in prize money, with total purses rising to $140,000 from the previous $120,000.
The host for the BWF World Tour Finals, the season-ending championship featuring the world’s top players, will be announced at a later date.
