Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque welcomes the signing of a supply agreement between the Philippine government and Pfizer for the procurement of 40 million doses of 2019 Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) developed by the American company.
"Ito ang pinakamalaking bilang ng bakuna na nabili ng Pilipinas. Ang shipment ng Pfizer ay inaasahang darating ngayong Agosto," Roque said on Monday, June 21, during a virtual press briefing.
With the expected arrival of additional 40 million COVID-19 vaccine doses from Pfizer, Roque estimates that the Philippines will have received at least 158 million of COVID-19 doses before the end of 2021.
The Palace official mentioned the Philippines has also ordered 26 million doses from Sinovac of China, 10 million doses from the Gamaleya Institute of Russia, 20 million doses from Moderna of the United States, and 17 million doses of AstraZeneca.
"Idadagdag pa natin ang commitment ng COVAX Facility na 44 million doses ngayong taon at ang one million dose ng Sinovac donation galing po sa Tsina," Roque said.
"Suma total, ngayong mayroon na tayong inaasahan na 158 million na doses, sapat-sapat na para sa kabuuang ng ating populasyon," he added.
The Philippines has already received a total of 12,705,870 doses of COVID-19 vaccines ordered from Sinovac, AstraZeneca, the Gamaleya Institute, and Pfizer.
