The Philippines on Saturday sought the help of the United States in containing the oil spill in Oriental Mindoro, which has already spread to other communities.
According to Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant Admiral Artemio Abu, they have already sent a letter to the Embassy of the United States asking for assistance and equipment that they could provide.
Abu added that the M/T Princess Empress carrying the tanker sank at least 389 meters beneath yet the country’s available equipment has limited depth coverage.
The oil spill has spread and reached more coastal communities, Abu said.
Last Friday, the spill was reported to reach Palawan, 295km away from the accident site.
Meanwhile, other countries like Japan have also sent help in order to control the oil spill. More countries have also extended their support, while other nations will meet with officials to discuss the issue.
