President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared August 8 to 14 every year as Philippine Space Week to promote space awareness among Filipinos.
In a press release of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed Proclamation No. 302, which was issued on July 25.
The Philippine Space Week coincides with the enactment of the Philippine Space Act on August 8, 2019, the PCO noted.
Additionally, it also emphasizes "the substantial influence of space science and technology applications on the socio-economic development of the country."
The proclamation says that "there is a need to promote space awareness, celebrate the significant contributions of Filipinos worldwide in the field of space science, and espouse the value, benefits, and impacts of space science and technology applications on the lives of Filipinos."
The president gave the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) the task of publicizing Philippine Space Week and selecting its projects, programs, and events.
He also gave orders for government organizations, including enterprises owned by or under the supervision of the government, state institutions and colleges, local government entities, non-profits, and the private sector, to actively take part in Philippine Space Week activities.
