The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) announced Friday, Sept. 29, the resumption of its corporate website and member portal following the ransomware attack that affected its systems last week.

“PhilHealth has been working round the clock since Friday to clean up the affected workstations and restore normalcy the soonest,” the statement read.

The statement said that it was yet to verify the alleged data leak of its members that was exposed to the dark web. It also added the government’s policy of not paying criminals, citing the alleged demand of $300,000 by Medusa ransomware.

“PhilHealth also guarantees the public that its databases are intact, safe, and secure. Members are also assured that their benefit entitlement will not be hampered due to this incident. Interim arrangements while systems are offline have been instituted to ensure that members continually avail of their PhilHealth benefits anytime and anywhere in the country,” the statement further read.

Meanwhile, the state insurance agency acknowledged its continued investigation with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and National Privacy Commission (NPC), who recently condemned the cyberattack and initiated an onsite investigation.
