President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed his optimism that the country will further strengthen its bilateral relations with Vietnam.
The commitment was made by the President after accepting the credentials of the new ambassador of Vietnam, Lai Thai Binh, in Malacañang on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
“It is with great pleasure that I welcome you Manila, to the Philippines as the Ambassador of Vietnam to our country,” the President said in welcoming Ambassador Lai in Malacañang. It is just in time as we have many things planned between our two countries and I’m very happy to have received your letter of credence,” the President said.
“And I think that there are many, many more things that your PM and I have discussed for many hours during our ASEAN meetings. We have many areas that we can explore. For that, I look forward to doing that,” he added.
According to Marcos, with the assignment of Lai to the Philippines, the two countries may focus more on various aspects of the relationship.
Meanwhile, Lai extended the warmest greetings, sincere love, and gratitude of the Vietnamese government to Marcos.
“I look forward to your kind attention and guidance in our bilateral relations,” he said.
Vietnam's foreign relations are said to be based on the principles of international law, which respect freedom, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and equal treatment.
Aside from the new ambassador of Vietnam, PBBM also welcomed at the Palace the new resident ambassador-designate of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in the Philippines, Marciano Octavio Garcia da Silva.
It will be remembered that President Marcos also met Timor-Leste President José Ramos-Horta when he visited the country last November.
On said occasion, the President expressed his commitment to support Timor-Leste's development through "South-South Cooperation."
