The Philippine government will send financial aid to help Syria recover from the magnitude 7.9 earthquake that hit the nation and Türkiye in February.

In a Facebook post on Friday, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said the country through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is set to provide $200,000, or Php 11,036,000 assistance.

Apart from this, the DFA will also send in-kind relief aid.

The country previously dispatched an 83-man Interagency Humanitarian Contingent (PIAHC) that helped in the search and rescue operation in Türkiye.

The Philippine contingent was composed of 33 officials from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, 21 from the Army's 525th Engineer Combat Battalion, 51st Engineer Brigade, and 12 from the Air Force's 505th Search and Rescue Group.

According to PCO, the PIAHC search and rescue team has assisted 36 buildings while the PIAHC medical team has served 1,022 patients.

Government agencies, meanwhile, has donated 11,205 blankets, 5,000 bonnets, and 420 pair of gloves.
