The Philippines will begin its avocado exportation to South Korea after completing the necessary and important process required by Seoul, according to the Philippine Embassy in Seoul, in which a commercial shipment of Hass avocado is expected before the end of this month.
Department of Agriculture (DA) Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban announced on September 14 that the South Korean government had finally approved the Philippines’ market access for avocado exports.
Moreover, the imported fruits will be procured from the Dole Philippines Orchards and Packing Houses in Davao, Bukidnon, and South Cotabato, accredited by the Bureau of Plant Industry.
For South Koreans, avocado serves as the main nutritional ingredient for their salads and sandwiches; however, most of the exports come from Latin America.
Due to the country’s one-at-a-time policy for Pest Risk Analysis (PRA), market access was continued to stage 4 and continued only after the Philippines’ okra export was approved in 2021.
