The Philippines intends to increase its participation in the global electronics and electric value chain, particularly in wafer technology and research and development, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The electronics industry, which specializes in manufacturing assembly, testing, packaging, and distribution, already contributes significantly to the country's exports, said DTI Assistant Secretary Allan Gepty.
Gepty believes that capturing the two additional steps in the value chain will help the country's sector even more.
Raw materials, electronic and electrical components (semiconductor wafers, bare circuit boards, etc.), subassemblies, and final products are the primary components of the aforementioned global value chain.
It also comprises tasks that add value to the end goods, such as research and development, circuitry design, and software integration, among others.
Gepty stated that DTI will continue to encourage the establishment of manufacturing and assembly for final products.
