The Philippines has detected its 4th case of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.

In a press briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the latest case is a 38-year-old woman who arrived in the country from the United States last December 10 via Philippine Airlines PR 127.

She reportedly experienced throat itchiness and cold on December 13. Upon testing positive on December 15, she was placed in an isolation facility.

Vergeire said she is now asymptomatic and is isolated at home.

"She was discharged after 10-day isolation on December 24. She remains to be asymptomatic as of this time," Vergeire said.

According to the DOH official, the patient's positive result for the Omicron variant came out on December 25. She is scheduled to be retested on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Vergeire said DOH is still trying to coordinate with the Bureau of Quarantine and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) regarding the flight manifest for contact tracing.
