The Philippines does not recognize the fishing ban imposed by China in some parts of the disputed West Philippine Sea. This is according to a statement by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
In the statement, the DFA said that the fishing ban has been the subject of diplomatic protests launched against China and that it will continue to register the formal opposition to what it calls as an illegal exercise of state authority in so far as they cover the Philippines’ maritime zone.
China’s fishing ban imposed from May 1 to August 16 has been the subject of diplomatic protests launched by the country.
“We urge China to take active measures at port to prevent its fishing fleets from encroaching into our territorial sea and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ),” the statement said.
DFA added that the Philippines is ready to take law enforcement measures on illegal fishing activities in its waters.
