The Philippines has been placed 100th out of 143 nations listed in the World Justice Project (WJP) rule of law index for 2023.

Based on the index released on October 25, the Philippines has 0.46% adherence to the rule of law, with a grading system of 0.00 as weaker to 1.00 as stronger.

The current index showed a drop in ranking, with 97th place in 2022 rating 0.47%.

Out of 15 other Asian countries, the Philippines is 13th in the East Asia and Pacific region.

Meanwhile, Denmark topped the overall rankings with a 0.90% score, followed by Norway placing 2nd with 0.89% and Finland placing 3rd with 0.87%.

Venezuela placed last at rank 142 with a 0.26% overall score, followed by Cambodia with 0.31% and Afghanistan with 0.32%.

The WJP rule of law index provides citizens, governments, policymakers, donors, businesses, media, academics, and civil society organizations with a uniquely comparative analysis of how well countries adhere to universal rule of law principles.

It covers 142 nations and is based on national surveys of more than 149,000 households and 3,400 legal practitioners.
