It may not rank as high in terms of the number of countries it can get you to, but there’s no denying that a global lifestyle and culture platform thinks the Philippine passport is among the prettiest of them all.
Earlier this week, Hypebeast, a Hong Kong-based company focused on contemporary culture and lifestyle, included the Philippines in their list of one of the “best-designed” passports from around the world. After Switzerland unveiled the latest design of their passport, Hypebeast rounded up a list of the most aesthetic passports worldwide.
However, one distinct feature stood out for the global platform, being the Philippine eagle that can be seen on the flip cover of the passport.
In an Instagram post, they wrote, “From Norway’s UV-reactive landscapes to Japan’s ukiyo-e art, the Philippines’ iconic Philippine eagle, New Zealand’s sleek black cover, and more — these passports set the bar for design. “

In 2016, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) introduced a newly designed Philippine passport, along with updated security features. The agency highlighted the patriotic theme of the passport, containing lines of the Philippine national anthem and tourist destinations like Mayon Volcano and the Banawe Rice Terraces.
There are three types of passports issued by the DFA, coming in various colors. Maroon is issued to ordinary citizens for general travel purposes, red is issued to government officials and employees for official travel, and dark blue is for diplomats, members of the cabinet, and other high-ranking officials.
The Philippine passport currently holds visa-free access to 67 destinations.
