National Security Council (NSC) Assistant Director General Jonathan Malaya said that the Philippines might demand possible compensation against China following the China Coast Guard’s aggressive actions in the West Philippine Sea that caused damage to Manila vessels.
According to Malaya, the damage that the Philippine vessels suffered is a violation of the collision regulation, adding that the Department of Justice and the Office of the Solicitor General may take a look at it and gather evidence supporting the possible case.
In such an incident, the Philippines summoned Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian over the weekend, and the Department of Foreign Affairs filed a new diplomatic protest against the aggressive actions of China.
Malaya said that there are many cases that can be filed to prosper on an international tribunal and that evidence is necessary.
Recently, the CCG attacked the Philippine vessels by firing water cannons while on its way to impede delivery of supplies to the Filipino troops at BRP Sierra Madre on Ayungin Shoal.
