Diplomatic sources reported that Japan, the United States, and the Philippines are considering having the first trilateral talks of their security advisors in Tokyo next week to confront China's increasing military actions in the Indo-Pacific area.

According to the sources, Takeo Akiba, secretary general of Japan's National Security Secretariat, and his US and Philippine counterparts, Jake Sullivan and Eduardo Ano, are anticipated to attend the planned meetings on June 16.

Following the first combined drills by three nations' coast guards earlier this month off Manila Bay, which opens to the South China Sea, the talks would show their growing collaboration.

According to the sources, the meeting, which was originally slated for April, will demonstrate their renewed commitment to bolstering their deterrence against Beijing's growing maritime aggression in the East and South China Seas, including the Taiwan Strait.

China's Communist Party considers Taiwan its own territory to be reunified with the mainland and has increased military pressure on the self-ruled democratic island.

China and Taiwan have been governed independently since their 1949 separation due to civil war. Beijing has vehemently opposed any official interaction between the island and the US.

Both Japan and the Philippines, both US security allies, are experiencing issues linked to China's territorial claims in their neighboring waters at a critical juncture in their efforts to maintain economic ties with Beijing. Last week, Japan, the United States, and the Philippines conducted their first quadrilateral defense ministerial meeting in Singapore, on the margins of the Asia Security Summit, often known as the Shangri-La Dialogue.
