At least 300,00 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from U.S. drugmaker Moderna Inc. are expected to arrive in the Philippines on June 31, the country's envoy to the US said Monday.

"June 21 is the target date of delivery for the first batch of Moderna vaccines. It will be 300,000 doses as a start," Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez said in an interview with CNN Philippines.

He added that more doses from Moderna will arrive around July - September.

The Philippines procured at least 20 million doses of the Moderna vaccine. Of this number, 13 million were paid for by the national government while seven million were paid for by the private sector.

Earlier, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said the efficacy rate of the Moderna vaccine among some groups is less than 94% and is consistently above 80% to persons aged 18 and above, and special groups including healthcare workers, people with comorbidities, and the elderly.

So far, the country has received COVID-19 vaccines from Sinovac, AstraZeneca, and Pfizer.
