The Philippines has detected its first case of Omicron Subvariant FE.1, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Monday.

According to the DOH's COVID-19 biosurveillance report, FE.1 is a sublineage of XBB which was added in the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control's (ECDC) list of variations under monitoring last June 1.

The Southern Philippines Medical Center and the University of the Philippines (UP) Philippine Genome Center sequenced the samples from May 29 to June 12.

The FE.1, also known as XBB.1.18.1.1, has been discovered in 35 countries or jurisdictions spread over six continent.

The DOH biosurveillance report also indicated that an additional 2,215 Omicron virus were discovered in the country.

At least 1,939 were classified as XBB.

In addition, health officials discovered 206 cases of BA.2.3.20, 34 as XBC, 4 as BA.5, 6 as BA.2.75, and 26 various Omicron sublineages.

Meanwhile, the Philippines registered 726 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, bringing the total to 4,159,310.

Of the total, 8,861 are active COVID-19 cases.
