President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Manet jointly presided over the presentation of signed agreements on various areas of cooperation during a ceremony at the President’s Hall in Malacañang Palace on Tuesday.
The agreements cover various areas of cooperation, including trade and investment, agriculture, education, tourism, and communications.
One of the agreements presented is the Agreement for the Elimination of Double Taxation on Income and the Prevention of Tax Evasion and Avoidance. This agreement aims to reduce tax burdens for investors from both countries, fostering increased bilateral investments.
Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Agricultural and Agribusiness Cooperation was signed, focusing on agricultural planning and further strengthening international trade and agribusiness investments between the two nations.
The two countries are also set to collaborate in the fields of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Digital Transformation.
Additionally, the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Tourism Cooperation and another MOU on Cooperation in the Field of Technical Vocational Education and Training.
The two countries also signed an MOU on the Implementation of Competition Law to attract investments and improve the business environment, along with another agreement on defense, looting prevention, and combating cultural property trafficking.
Before unveiling the signed agreements, the two leaders held a bilateral meeting focused on expanding cooperation in transnational crime prevention, defense, trade, tourism, and regional and multilateral concerns.
Meanwhile, President Marcos Jr. also expressed gratitude to Cambodia for granting pardon to the 13 Filipino surrogate mothers involved in the cross-border human trafficking case a year ago.
