The Japan Boxing Commission (JBC) imposed a one-year suspension on Filipino boxer and former three-division champion Johnriel Casimero for failing to meet the 122-pound super bantamweight limit in his ten-round bout against American boxer Saul Sanchez.
The official weigh-in on Saturday revealed that the 35-year-old boxer tipped the scales at 123 pounds, exceeding the super bantamweight limit by one kilogram.
After being allowed two hours to cut weight, the Filipino boxer still fell short of the required limit.
Nonetheless, the match continued, and Casimero won against his opponent via technical knock-out in the first round
However, the Japan Boxing Commission (JBC) stated that, in compliance with their rules, Casimero will be barred from competing in Japan for one year.
The Filipino boxer, with a record of 34 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw, including 23 knockouts, was promoted by Japanese outfit Treasure Boxing Promotion.
Casimero's last two fights in Japan were against Yukinori Oguni, which ended in a technical draw, and Saul Sanchez.
