The Philippine Men's National Football Team has secured a spot in the semifinals of the 2024 ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup after a thrilling victory over Indonesia, on Saturday in front of their home crowd.
This marks the Nationals' first appearance in the Mitsubishi Electric Cup since 2018.
Before their crucial 1-0 win against Indonesia, the Philippines had endured three consecutive draws against Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam.
After a goalless first half, Bjorn Kristensen scored the decisive goal for the Philippines in the 63rd minute.
Kristensen’s goal proved sufficient to secure the three points, placing the Philippines in second place in Group B, led by Vietnam.
The Philippines concluded the group stage with six points, earning one win and three draws.
The first leg of the semifinals will kick off on Friday, December 27, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, followed by the second match in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 30.
