The Southeast Asian Games saw an exciting turn of events when Sakura Alforte became the fifth Filipino athlete to secure a gold medal on Saturday.

The karate women's individual kata event was the perfect opportunity for Alforte to shine as she dethroned Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Phuong to take home the coveted gold medal.

Alforte joins the ranks of the country's other gold medalists, namely Kaila Napolis in jiu-jitsu, Angel Derla in kun bokator, and Mark Julius Rodelas and Precious Cabuya in obstacle course racing.

With Alforte's impressive feat, the Philippines is making a strong showing in the biennial meet.

The Philippines' success doesn't end there as Enrico Vasquez also brought home a bronze medal in the men's individual kata, adding to the country's medal count.

As of present, the Philippines has secured a total of five gold medals, six silver medals, and five bronze medals in the Cambodia Games.
