The Philippines now has six athletes who qualified for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
Filipina boxers Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas have both earned spots for the Paris Games following their recent victories in the World Qualification Tournament in Busto Arsizio, Italy.
Petecio, who struck silver in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, won against Esra Yildiz of Turkey via a 4-1 decision in the semifinals of the women's 57 kilograms division.
Villegas, meanwhile, secured a 5-0 win against Zlatislava Chukanova of Bulgaria in the quarterfinals of the women's 50 kilograms division.
Petecio and Villegas join Eumir Marcial, EJ Obiena, Carlos Yulo, and Aleah Finnegan in the growing list of Filipino athletes who have booked a ticket to the Paris Games that will open on July 26 and run until August 11.
