Filipina boxer Nesthy Petecio settled for a bronze medal in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
Petecio lost to Julia Szeremeta of Poland via split decision, 28-29, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, in the semifinals of the women's boxing 57 kilograms division, on Wednesday, August 7.
The two-time Southeast Asian Games Gold medalist dominated the opening round of the match but she got outscored by her Polish foe in the last two rounds.
Petecio, who won a silver medal in the previous Olympics held in Japan, secured a podium finish in the Paris Games after she bested Zichun Xu of China in the quarterfinals.
As of writing, the Philippines has won two gold medals, both courtesy of gymnast Carlos Yulo; and two bronze medals via Petecio and Filipina boxer Aira Villegas.
