Rice can now be bought for only ₱40 per kilo and at the commuter’s convenience: Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) kiosks are now up and running in four LRT-2 and MRT-3 stations!
Kiosks along the MRT-3 line are located at the North Avenue and Ayala Stations, and the other two are on LRT-2’s Araneta Center-Cubao Station on Aurora Boulevard and Recto Station on Claro M. Recto Street, open from Tuesday to Saturday from 3 PM to 8 PM, or until the stalls run out.
“Patuloy tayong nakikipag-ugnayan sa DOTr (Department of Transportation) para madagdagan din itong mga station na nagtitinda ng Rice for All,” said the Department of Agriculture (DA) Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa.
There are also more Kadiwa kiosks in the following Metro Manila markets, besides the previously established centers:
- Murphy Public Market at 15th Avenue corner Liberty Street, Cubao, Quezon City
- Balintawak Cloverleaf Market along EDSA corner Old Samson Road, Balintawak, Quezon City
- Pamilihang Bayan ng Trabajo on 751 J. Marzan Street, Manila
- Pasay City Public Market in Antonio Arnaiz Avenue corner Taft Avenue
- Pamilihang Bayan ng Bagong Parañaque (La Huerta)
- Maypajo Public Market at J.P. Rizal Street, Caloocan
These kiosks are operational between the usual work hours of 8 AM to 5 PM on the same days, where rice for ₱40/kilo is also sold.
Buyers can look forward to more KNP kiosks popping up in more public markets all across the National Capital Region (NCR) in the weeks to come, de Mesa announced.
“Napakaganda ng pagtanggap ng ating mga kababayan dito sa ₱40 per kilo na Rice For All,” he said.
“In fact, talagang nauubos agad at nagkakaroon na ngayon ng adjustment ang ating FTI (Food and Terminal Inc.) na ka-partner natin sa logistics at distribution para madagdagan natin iyong supply ng bigas,” he added.
The kiosks, under the Rice For All program, are expected to spread beyond NCR beginning 2025, when the DA will be able to use its newly-approved budget for KNPs of ₱5 billion. Rice For All has a ₱3 billion allocation, while the rehabilitation of warehouses and logistics cost has been allotted ₱1.5 billion.
