The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Friday announced that it will impose a 24-hour gun ban and deploy over 17,000 security officers on July 24, the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.
In a news release, NCRPO said the Permit to Carry Firearms Outside Residence (PTCFOR) will be suspended in Metro Manila from 12:01 AM to 12 MN of July 24.
A No Fly Zone/No Drone Zone will also be enforced around Batasang Pambansa, the venue of the SONA.
It said that a total of 22,905 security officers will be deployed.
Of these, 17,929 are personnel from the NCRPO, 4,476 from allied government units, and 500 from force multipliers.
“Kaugnay nito ay magsasagawa din ng mga simulation at communication exercises ang kapulisan ng NCRPO upang makapaglatag ng mga contingency measures para sa ibat-ibang uri ng insidenteng maaaring mangyari,” NCRPO said.
The deployed security officers will implement maximum tolerance against progressive groups that will protest in the streets.
Earlier, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief PGen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. said that the PNP has formed a special task force SONA that will ensure peace and security on July 24.
According to the PNP Chief, they have yet to receive an intelligence report regarding any threats against the President.
