The alleged suspect in the slain of radio commentator Percy Lapid has surrendered to the authorities, Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos said Tuesday.
In a media conference, Abalos said the alleged gunman identified as Joel Estorial from Quezon City surrendered "out of fear" after the police released his photo in public along with a Php 6.5-million bounty placed on his head.
"Ang initial report ay siya ay sumurrender out of fear for personal safety dahil natakot siya sa kanyang safety niya dahil pagkatapos ilabas sa publiko ang kanyang mukha," he said.
(An initial report said he surrendered out of fear of his personal safety after his face was shown in public.)
"Siya ay gumawa na ng (He has made) extrajudicial confession duly assisted by council," he added.
According to Abalos, Estoria pointed on two other individuals, a certain Edmon and Israel Dimaculangan, who were behind the killing of Lapid last October 3.
Lapid, whose real name Percival Mabasa, hosted “Lapid Fire" in DWBL 1242. He was gunned down at the Santa Cecilia gate of BF Resort Village in Las Piñas City.
When asked about the mastermind behind the killing, Estorial said the order was from someone "inside the Bilibid." Authorities have yet to clarify if the alleged suspect is a civilian or a person deprived of liberty from the New Bilibid Prison.
Estorial also said that they were allegedly paid Php 550,000 to kill Lapid and that there were six people behind the killing, including him.
