The Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) on Thursday, February 1, said the penalties imposed on ‘colorum’ public utility vehicles (PUVs) in January reached P17.4 million.
According to the SAICT, stricter fines with P200k for every van while P1 million per bus “reflect the government's unwavering commitment to prioritizing road safety for all commuters.”
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) earlier announced creating a strategic plan for the intensified campaign against ‘colorum’ PUVs.
LTO chief Vigor Mendoza claimed receiving complaints from transport groups, stating that ‘colorum’ drivers were hogging 30 percent of their supposed daily income.
The SAICT’s anti-colorum campaign was in collaboration with the PCG and the LTO.
