The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) has agreed to support the proposed charter change or cha-cha, party Secretary General Melvin Matibag confirmed on Tuesday.
The political party held a meeting earlier today.
"We reached sa consensus that PDP will come out we the resolution supporting Charter Change," Matibag said in a statement.
He said former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the PDP-Laban chairman, would be the first to sign the resolution.
The formal declaration of support on whether they prefer the Constitutional Convention (ConCon) or Constituent Assembly (ConAss) would be announced on Thursday, Matibag added.
The Duterte-led group is comprised of members namely, Senator Francis Tolentino, Senator Bong Go, Senator Bato dela Rosa, Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama, and Deputy Speaker Rep. Dong Gonzales.
The political party's decision came one day after Senator Robinhood 'Robin' Padilla threatened to resign as a PDP-Laban member and go independent if his fellow constituents would not back him up on cha-cha.
Padilla has been pushing for constitutional reform to lift the restrictions that prohibit foreign investors from investing in the country.
