A new type of illegal drug circulating in the country alarmed the Philippine National Police (PNP) shared in a press conference on Friday, August 30 at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
According to the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) Chief Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta, the liquid substance is called methylamphetamine and is similar to shabu. It also appears to be cheaper and less toxic.
“The liquid substance can also be converted into solid and also crystalizes. You would think it's ordinary distilled water but when it is processed, it still causes a lot of effects in the air and produces odor," Matta mentioned.
The new drug variation was discovered after three Chinese nationals were arrested during the anti-drug operations in Pasay and Parañaque on Wednesday, August 28. Matta stated that it was the first time that operatives encountered that type of drug.
Matta added that drug syndicates are selling the new type of drug on social media. The operatives are currently on a tight watch with the new drug variation. However, they have yet to develop a case buildup against the distributors, so that they can be arrested. Operatives have included all the information in their report.
He added that the PNP is also validating reports of local officials involved in the distribution and proliferation of illegal drugs in the country.
