The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) will shoulder the professional fees of doctors attending to patients under the Medical Assistance for Indigent Patients Program (MAIPP) by the end of October this year.
The announcement by House Speaker Martin Romualdez on Wednesday, August 14, followed a meeting which concerned the utilization of the PCSO's funds to subsidize doctors' fees. He was joined by PCSO General Manager Mel Robles and the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) President Dr. Hector Santos Jr.
"Nagpapasalamat tayo dito sa ating GM ng PCSO at sinagot niya po ang hinaing ng ating healthcare professionals lalo na dito sa isyu ng professional fees," Romualdez said.
(We are thankful for our PCSO General Manager for tackling our healthcare professionals' concerns, particularly with regard to the issue of professional fees.)
"All medical practitioners will be covered by the government under the auspices of the PCSO so that health care will be totally free," he added.
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos has desired and vowed that healthcare would be free for all Filipinos, Romualdez stated.
