Police Colonel Hector Grijaldo is now under the custody of the House of Representatives, the Quad Committee Chairman and Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers said on Monday.
According to the lawmaker, Grijaldo has been detained at the House facility since December 14. House officials sought the help of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and its Sergeant at Arms in implementing the police colonel’s contempt and arrest order.
Grijaldo was cited in contempt during the Quad Committee’s hearing last week, for skipping the panel’s hearings four times. The former’s letter indicated that he is currently confined in a hospital and is being treated for rotator cuff syndrome.
Barbers mentioned that Grijaldo requested to be under hospital arrest, but was turned down by House officials because he is ambulatory. During the mega panel’s hearing last week, the Chief of the Orthopedic Department of the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital PltCol. Leonell Garcia said that Grijaldo is capable of moving independently, ruling that he is physically able to attend the hearing.
Additionally, Grijaldo’s assessment last December 5 indicated that he was coherent, cooperative, and ambulatory.
Grijaldo previously accused Laguna Rep. Dan Fernandez and Manila 6th District Rep. Bienvenido Abante of forcing him to confirm former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Chief Royina Garma’s testimony on the war on drugs’ rewards system. The claims were later refuted by the two lawmakers, stating that they were willing to step down from their position in the Committee to verify the allegations against them.
However, Garma’s counsel submitted a letter to Congress, debunking the police colonel’s claims.
