The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Sunday warned the public against a fake memorandum claiming that there will be a two-day salary deduction for government workers to establish relief funds for earthquake victims in Türkiye and Syria.

In a statement, the PCO said the Office of the President (OP) and the Office of the Executive Secretary (ES) has never issued a memo order titled "Two Days Salary Deduction For the Month of March 2023 From All Government Employees For President Relief Fund For Turkey And Syria."

"Ito ay peke at walang katotohanan. Pinapayuhan ang lahat lalo na ang mga empleyado ng gobyerno na maging mapanuri at mapagmatyag sa kumakalat na balita," it said.

"Tanging sa mga opisyal na pages, lamang ng gobyerno maniwala at mag base ng totoong mga impormasyon," PCO added.

In the fake memorandum, it stated that two days' worth of salary will be deducted from officers and officials working in ministries, divisions, departments, authorities, corporations, companies, financial institutions, and commissions that would be experiencing a two-day salary deduction.

Likewise, officers and officials of civil and armed forces, officers and officials holding posts on contract as well as lump sum pay packages, and officers and officials locally recruited in foreign missions will also have a two-day salary deduction.

According to PCO Secretary Cheloy Garafil, the Malacañang Palace is seeking a probe into the matter.

"Yes. The Office of the ES is coordinating with authorities," Garafil said.
