The 'Bagong Pilipinas' kick-off rally at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on Sunday was not meant to show support for Charter change (Cha-cha), an official said.
President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. on Sunday led the said rally where thousands of supporters and government workers attended.
In an interview, Presidential Communications Office Assistant Secretary Joey Villarama denied claims that the one-day event was meant to advocate the initiative to amend the 1987 Constitution.
"Walang mensaheng ganun. 'Yung timing lang ng kick off, nagkataon lang kung kelan pinag-uusapan 'yung hot topic na 'yan," Villarama clarified.
Prior to the event, PCO Undersecretary Gerard Baria said that the event is solely dedicated to the covenant of Bagong Pilipinas.
"This is an activity by the Executive Department for the covenant of Bagong Pilipinas. This is the Executive Department’s way of showing its commitment that it will do its job. There are no other reasons," Baria said.
The Bagong Pilipinas Campaign is the overarching theme of the Marcos administration’s brand of governance and leadership, characterized by a principled, accountable, and dependable government reinforced by unified institutions of society.
During his speech, the President called for unity to build a progressive nation, strong economy and secured future for Filipinos.
