The number of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel will reach 30,430 by the end of the year with the hiring of 4,000 new recruits.
In a statement on Thursday, August 3, PCG said the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) approved the hiring of more workers this year.
PCG Commandant Admiral Artemio Abu commended President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. for his ongoing support of the organization, which exemplifies the administration's dedication to maritime security.
Transport Secretary Jaime Bautista also agreed that the PCG should bring on new personnel to improve its marine administration.
According to Abu, the additional personnel will strengthen the PCG's capabilities and help build a stronger organization.
He also noted that the recruits would be placed at different PCG stations and substations across the nation.
"The PCG plays a critical role in safeguarding lives and property at sea, enforcing maritime law, protecting the environment, and asserting our maritime jurisdiction," Abu said.
